YOUR STORY IS YOURS

Privacy, in plain language.

Product privacy notice · 2 November 2026. This first-release notice describes the application’s current data handling. The platform operator must publish its legal identity, contact details, approved verification partner and retention schedule before public registration is opened.

What we collect and why

We use your legal name, date of birth, email and password hash to run your account and confirm eligibility. You choose your public display name, profile photo, location, relationship history, family preferences, interests, values and partner description. Faith and other personal preferences are shared only when you choose them for matching. Do not put identity documents, financial information or contact details in your public profile.

Your NIN-linked identity

The share-code verification flow sends a current, time-limited NINAuth share code to the operator’s approved verification partner. We do not store your raw NIN or share code. We retain a protected unique-identity token, the provider reference, verification status and consent record to prevent duplicate accounts. The provider’s own privacy notice also applies to its processing.

What other members can see

Eligible, verified members can see your chosen profile details and age, never your legal name, email, full date of birth or verification token. Your relationship history remains self-reported. When you pause discovery, new introductions stop; existing partners can continue to see their introduction.

How compatibility works

We compare the preferences and profile information both members choose to share. Adult age range, relationship-history preferences, faith preference and openness to children are eligibility checks in both directions. Shared values, location, marriage timeline, interests and word-based profile-description matching shape the score. A score is an explanation of profile alignment, not a prediction or an automated decision that you must accept. You can change your preferences, decline a request or pause discovery.

Conversations and safety records

Messages are available to the two members in an active introduction. They are not end-to-end encrypted. Administrators review submitted safety reports; this release does not provide a routine administrator chat-reading screen. Operational access is restricted by server access controls. Moderation actions, identity checks and key account actions are audited.

Cookies, processors and security

AureNaija uses an essential session cookie to keep you signed in and protect forms. This release includes no advertising trackers. Hosting and the configured identity partner process the information needed for their services. Production must use HTTPS and restricted database and file access.

Your choices and retention

You can edit your profile, pause discovery, block members and close your account. Closing immediately hides your profile and ends introductions. It does not immediately erase safety, audit or identity-deduplication records. Before launch, the operator must provide a published contact for access, correction, consent withdrawal and erasure requests, and a specific retention schedule with a working deletion process. You can raise data-protection concerns with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

We’re taking care of that for you.
